Nox Aeterna: The council

The circle of five looked to the blood, red sky.  The dark clouds that were above them vanished to make way for the clear crimson behind it. And from above them the loud sound of thundering could be heard.  It was on this day the council was created. Sworn to the four vampric gods, they were the new authority and protectors of their kind, they became Nox Aeterna.
Nox Aeterna was made of five vampires, all who had proven themselves worthy to the gods. All from four families; Marco Tepes, Lucius Witton, Cato Nyphera, Zeak Mortima and his childer Akoni Mortima.  Although they had just made the biggest commitment of their ‘eternal’ lives, hatred appeared on many eyes.  It was clear there was tension within the group. Something which would have a detrimental effect on the council centuries later...
A thousand years on, and it was unclear what had happened to the council. Some say they had assassinated and diabolised one another in attempt to be the one true ruler. Many say they separated to different corners of the world, seeking new beginning. One family remained. Lucious Witton had stayed behind at the mass ruins of the council chambers. Many from the now secret vampire community speculated at his power. He smelt stronger than before. A new aura seeped from him like smoke, filling any place he stood. Even outside a dark mist settled at his feet. It was then it was clear. Lucius had diabolised the others, taken them for their blood, drained them of their knowledge and centuries of life.
He went on to sire a girl. Only 17 years of age, and when he looked into her eyes as the life drained from her body he knew that he could not let her die. No longer could he watch people’s life’s fall and crush beneath his hands like sand. He had been blessed with life, and he has always used it to take from others. A price he felt he had to pay. He set out on a new beginning himself. He taught the girl all he knew, and even went onto the poor streets of Rome where he was living, and fed those children who were starving. He became a pillar of society...
Until one day, mid afternoon, he was sleeping in slumber. The last of the Tepes family had tracked Lucius down. He stuck a wooden steak through his heart and paralysed him on his own bed. Before draining him of all his blood, leaving the corpse of Lucious to shrivel up and blacken.
Tepes felt power move through his veins. Never had he felt so much power. He stepped back from Lucius’ body in awe. Before feeling a shape pain central to his back. The girl Lucius had sired had struck him through the heart. Tepes fell to his knees and the tearful girl vengefully drained his blood. Taking in the blood of her master and the blood of Tepes.
Once she had left the room, she vowed that her newly found power would only be to help the vampire community. She did not seek vengeance on the Tepes family that still existed far in the north. She would reform the council with new names, and new blood.
